To better help you understand "Anne Frank" your assignment is to research and create an oral report to present in class. You will handwrite (front and back) a one page minimum report to turn in along with preparing a visual aid for your presentation. Mrs. Schroeder will give you the date for when this project is due.

WORLD WAR II & THE HOLOCAUST

To better understand "The Diary of Anne Frank", you must first have a working knowledge of World War II and the Holocaust. Below are nine areas of study that you will give your presentations on.

 

1. Concentration Camps

2. Germany: Why did it start the War?

3. "The Jewish Problem"

4. Axis vs. Allies

5. Nazi Ghettos

6. Major events in the Holocaust

7. Major people in World War II/Holocaust

8. The SS (Schutzstaffel),  and the SA (Sturmabteilung or 'brown shirts') and the Gestapo

9. Other victims of the Holocaust

You must have at least THREE sources for your report and list them at the end of the report. On the right side of this website, I've listed some starter sources that may be helpful to you. To get started, think of some of the questions below each topic to guide your research on the subject you are assigned.

  • Give their locations
  • Select camps did certain services for the German War effort.

2. Germany: Why did it start the War?

  • What happened to Germany at the end of World War I?
  • How did Adolf Hitler's rise to power guide Germany to War?
  • Why was the Great Depression an important issue for Germany before WW II?

3. "The Jewish Problem"

  • Who was the "Master Race"?
  • Why did the Germans not like the Jewish people?
  • What other races/types of people were prosecuted besides the Jewish people?

4. Axis vs. Allies

  • What countries made up the "Axis" powers and what did they want?
  • What countries made up the "Allies" powers and what did they want?
  • Why did some countries fight and others did not?

5. Nazi Ghettos

  • The Nazi's were efficient when dealing with their "Jewish Problem". How did they get the Jews to the concentration camps?
  • What kind of rules were placed upon the Jewish people in the Ghettos?
  • Why did some Jewish people offer to help 'police' others? What did it do for them or their family while in the Ghettos?

6. Major events in the Holocaust

  • There were certain major points in the Holocaust: explain the following
  • "Night of the Broken Glass"
  • "Kristillnacht"
  • "Final Solution"

7. Major people in World War II/Holocaust

  • Explain the following people's roles
  • Adolf Hitler
  • Franklin Delano Roosevelt
  • Josef Stalin
  • Winston Churchill
  • Heinrich Himmler

8. The SS (Schutzstaffel),  and the SA (Sturmabteilung or 'brown shirts') and the Gestapo

  • Explain each group and their purpose as WW II developed.

9. Other victims of the Holocaust
