 "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton offers up many themes and issues for readers to consider. To follow below are projects that we will explore as a class to help enhance our understanding of this novel.

 PROJECT 1: FAMILY

One of the major issues explored with "The Outsiders" is the issue of family. Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry form a totally different family than what is normal for the 1950's.

Your job today is to look up information on families in the 1950's. You are to write a minimum a page handwritten paper explaining what you have learned.

You then need to make a poster comparing a 1950's family to a family in today's world, (2009). What are the similarities? What are the differences? You will be given some class time to work on this assignment.
